Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and whether you choose to celebrate with a spouse, friends, or family members, there are so many ways to enjoy this holiday. Recently, I visited my mom who owns her own Etsy shop called MyPorchPrints, and we spent an afternoon together crafting.
We had so much fun creating this project! It was a great way to spend some time together, and I ended up with a beautiful Valentine’s themed garland for my home. If you are looking for a fun, easy Valentine's Day activity, this project is for you. For more crafting projects, check out my other blog post and learn how to make a beautiful hobbit door wreath!
For this craft you will need
-A Valentines themed digital print from MyPorchPrints which you can get HERE
-String (to hang your tags)
-Mini Clothespins (or clips of your choice)
Optional Extras to Make Crafting Easier
-Cricut Machine (for fussy cuts)
The kit we used was the Shabby Chic Rose Tag Flip Kit. This was a perfect option for making a Valentines garland because each tag can be customized with its own unique design, and the colors are soft and romantic. I used this video for inspiration. While it does not show how to create the garland specifically, it provides a tutorial on how to assemble the tags.
Here Are Some Tips for Crafting
-Create a rough draft before you commit. Start by printing and cutting out all the pieces. Then, lay them out on a table and have a loose arrangement for each tag before you begin gluing things down. This will keep your design organized and will make the overall look more polished.
-Pop up some of your papers to give them more dimension. You can see here how I bent the edges up around this flower to give it more depth. Layering is a big part of crafting, and having some of your design be three dimensional will make your project more appealing.
-Ink the edges of layered papers to make them stand out. Again, this will add dimension to your craft as well as giving it a slightly antiqued look. You can see how inking the edges on this tag adds so much character without me having to clutter the design with extra embellishments.
When in doubt, decorate opposite edges. If you are struggling with embellishing, and you worry about your design feeling overcrowded, try this tip. Decorate either the top and bottom of your tag or opposite corners. In this picture, you can see how I utilized this concept with some buttons. Two in the top right corner, and one in the bottom left. It adds a little embellishment without overcrowding the design.
I hope you will have as much fun crafting as I did! This garland makes for a lovely gift or a decoration for your own home. It is also a great group activity, so get together with some friends this weekend, and host a crafting party. Make some tea or cocoa, bake up some yummy treats, (my mini scratch made pumpkin pies would be perfect!) and enjoy an afternoon with your loved ones. Happy Valentine's Day!
So simple and lovely! Thanks!😀
